Experience staying on France's Cote Vermille
Port Venus Holidays own a private holiday rental apartment on France’s Cote Vermille, listed on the French Connections website. The apartment, in an architect designed block, is kitted out and furnished to appeal to the ‘grown-up’ traveller. It is quirky and features lots of thoughtful touches. Despite being kitted out to a higher standard than much of the local competition they weren’t getting the volume of enquiries and bookings they wanted.
Understanding: Attracting the right type of guest
Port Venus was looking to attract the type of guests who appreciate character and independence. People who have the flexibility to travel year round and are interested in experiencing the local area. Working with the team at Port Venus Holidays I created a profile of their ideal customer.
Writing: Le Citronnier experience
With a clear picture of their ideal guest, I rewrote the listing. I optimised the content and changed the focus from the physical apartment to the experience of a holiday staying in the apartment. I also gave a name 'Le Citronnier' after the lemon tree that grows in the garden.
"We worked with Annika to completely rewrite the content for our holiday apartment listing. She developed the prefect tone of voice and used it to create friendly and inviting copy that really shows what makes a stay at Le Citronnier special. With the new copy in place we saw a real difference to the number of enquiries and booking we received."

Le Citronnier
Le Citronnier gives you the best of both worlds – a quiet retreat with stunning sea views only a short walk away from a busy port town. Watch the banana and pleasure boats sail in and out from the private terraced garden whilst sipping a G&T flavoured with a slice of lemon freshly picked from your very own tree.
Tucked away on a quiet no-through road, this apartment in an architect designed block has all the facilities that you need for self-catering. However, if you want to take a break from cooking, the restaurants and bars are only a short stroll away.
There is no fixed changeover day, so choose your arrival and departure days to suit the available flights or have the best fares. After the first week, we are also happy to pro-rata the cost of extra days so that you can have maximum flexibility with your travel arrangements. With two private spaces, finding somewhere to park your car is no problem. However, if you prefer not to drive, then we can arrange for you to be collected and returned to the airport or station. There are also local buses at 1€ trip and Port Vendres has a train station.
Holiday Accommodation at Le Citronnier
The split-level apartment is kitted out to a high standard and decorated in a fresh nautical theme. There aren’t many places where you can open the French windows, lie in bed and gaze at the sea! The large bedroom has a king-size bed and plenty of storage for clothes.
The lounge contains everything else that you could want including a king-size sofa bed, TV, radio, DVD player and more sea-views across the harbour to the beaches, fort and vineyards beyond.
The kitchen, with its granite worktops, is equally well-stocked with everything that you would expect in an apartment of this quality including a dishwasher, induction hob and Nespresso machine so you needn’t forgo your breakfast coffee! Travelling light? There’s a washing machine in the bathroom.
Outside, framed in a garland of bougainvillea, there’s a sheltered east-facing patio to catch the morning sun with a picnic table, gas barbecue and a view of the red hills and blue sea.
Due to the layout of the apartment, the building and the terraced garden, it’s unsuitable for people with restricted mobility. Small children must be supervised in the garden because of a number of unprotected drops.
About Port Vendres in Pyrénées-Orientales, Languedoc-Roussillon
As a working harbour, Port-Vendres is a year-round destination, with most of the bars and restaurants staying open in the winter, unlike other towns and villages in the area that are packed in July and August, but closed out of season. The town also boasts a wide range of shops: bakers, butchers, wine merchants, newsagents, supermarkets, a weekly market and several sources of fresh fish.
There’s always plenty to do. This is where the Pyrenées meet the Mediterranean, so it’s a couple of hours drive to go skiing in the winter, within walking distance for a swim in the summer or, if you are feeling less energetic, simply make the most of the plentiful sunshine, seafood and wine.
If you want to explore further afield, a short hop up the coast, either by bus or car or a walk along the coastal path brings you to Collioure the town made famous by Matisse and Derain. The Spanish border is about 10 miles away and from there Figueres with its Dali Museum and Barcelona are within easy reach.
The Tourist Office, at the head of the harbour, has a whole host of information about the local area. In the apartment, you’ll find a veritable library of things to do, places to visit and maps to help you navigate your way around by car, bus or foot.
